How can a hotel be considered high-quality and impressive? Comfortable check-in experience, considerate service, or complete equipment? In my opinion, these are all based on a good first impression. Lighting occupies a dominant position in the first impression of customers and is a key part of hotel design. In order to avoid the hotel's lighting design being weaker than other companies, making customers give up renew because of the visual discomfort caused by the dim lighting. Today, let’s talk about the main points of lobby lighting design:

Flexibility

The light source used in the lobby of a general star hotel has a life span of about 2000 to 4000 hours, so it needs to be replaced frequently in a 10-year cycle. The number of lamps in the lobby is over ten thousand, so replacing the light source is not only a waste of time, but also a waste of manpower, so the flexibility of the lamps is another consideration. And the most ideal luminaire selection is to install and unload the light source without affecting the fixed (positioning) components of the luminaire. This not only saves replacement time but also provides positive protection for the interior decoration.

Timeliness: Durability

Generally, the lighting in the lobby of a hotel should be refurbished and repaired once every five years, and large-scale refurbishment and repair should be done every ten years. In other words, the service life of the lobby lamps must be at least ten years or more to meet the requirements of star-rated hotel lobbies, because the general small maintenance will not replace the lamps, which means that the quality of the luminaire where it is most exposed to heat and pressure, including the reflective cup cover, the cooling component, and the fixing (positioning) component, is very important.

Lighting positioning

The lighting of the lobby is generally positioned at the illuminance, about 150LX~250LX, the lighting is soft and elegant, rich and not dazzling. The ceiling lamps in the lobby generally use high-end crystal chandeliers and built-in downlights. The light above the service counter should be around 150~200LX, try to use local light sources to illuminate, so that the light directly shines on the service counter surface, so as not to affect the overall lighting atmosphere.

Since the countertop in the counter is lower than the service countertop, the workbench should be equipped with a lamp for the attendant to register and check-in. The lighting control of the lobby should be set at the service desk. From a functional point of view, the lobby should be equipped with a constant light around the clock to meet the 24-hour service of passengers.

Another lighting such as the lighting of the beverage and coffee service area and the lighting of the landscape area should in principle be determined according to the specific area and design style, but the illuminance should not affect or interfere with the overall lighting of the lobby.

Color temperature

In order to make it unique, the hotel lobby needs to emphasize its own temperament and create its own atmosphere. A warm white light source with a color temperature of around 3000K is a good choice. The reason is: no matter what type of hotel, it should be their common desire to create a cordial, warm, and friendly atmosphere, and the lighting environment provided by the light source with a color temperature of 3000K can strengthen this characteristic of the hotel. Based on the research of human vision on color temperature perception and space perception, the hue is biased towards orange and the same hue is biased towards the blue-violet color. When contrasted at the same time, orange and yellow make people feel warm and draw the distance between each other; based on memory, when the above colors are continuously compared, the result is the same. This perception is closely related to the psychological evaluations and emotional activities of kindness, warmth, and friendliness in the deep arousal of the psychological level.
