A PIR sensor is an electronic sensor that can measure infrared light radiated from objects in its field of view. They are most commonly used in PIR-based motion detectors. PIR sensors are commonly used in security alarms and automatic lighting. While referring to it, then you might think of active infrared sensors.

The difference between Passive and active infrared sensors

PIR uses the word "passive" as the first word in its name for a reason, not just because it is an inanimate object with no motivation to get up from the sofa to wash clothes or wash dishes.

In contrast to active sensors, passive sensors do not actually emit any type of radiation-it just receives radiation. Therefore, an active IR sensor may emit an IR beam and expect it to return (and analyze it based on what it returns), while a passive sensor does not emit any beam, but only senses ambient infrared radiation in its environment.

The difference between PIR sensor and motion sensor

• Motion sensor: It is able to detect the movement of people or objects. In most applications, these sensors are mainly used to detect human activity in a specific area.

• Converting motion into electrical signals: The sensor either emits a stimulus and monitors any changes reflected back, or obtains a signal from the moving object itself.

• Alarm: The alarm sounds when people or other objects invade and destroy the normal state.

• Usage: Security systems all over the world rely on motion sensors to trigger alarms and/or automatic light switches. These switches are usually placed in places that are relatively easy to enter buildings, such as windows and gates.
